Summer Events and ActivitiesSummer is the time at Tuttle's where we enjoy lots and lots good summer produce. Summer Events:Dates for 2013 Summer Events are still in the works, but here is some of what we have planned:
Strawberry Fest Saturday:Real Strawberry smoothies, strawberry shortcake, strawberry specials. Pickle Party: come a try some of our pickles! See a demo on how to make your own refrigerator pickles. Tour of New Apple Orchard: come take a guided tour of our new orchard planting. Learn about what we are doing and how we train young trees. Amish Cheese Sampling Saturday: come try some of our Amish cheese flavors. Applesauce Making Demo: come and learn how easy it is to make your own applesauce with Lodi apples. Local Meat Saturday: sample some of the local meat products we sell in our store. Talk to the farmers who raise them. Big Green Bag Weekends (Sweet Corn for Freezing): On weekends when sweet corn is at its best for freezing we will be offering sweet corn by the bushel at a discounted price. White and Bicolor corn should be available. Bags will be available starting at 10AM on Friday; and will be available on a first come first serve basis (typically available through Friday and Saturday). Pancake Breakfast: come enjoy a pancake breakfast with fresh fruit and fruit syrup. Cost per person. Peach Ice Cream Day: is one of our most popular summer events. Enjoy some homemade peach ice cream made right here with an old fashion hit and miss engine. Cost per cup. UPick Veggie Family Experience: Have an opportunity to go behind the scenes at Tuttles on this one day opportunity to pick veggies with your family. Take a wagon ride back to different areas of the farm for a guided picking experience. Your family will have an opportunity to pick the produce you want and then ride the wagon back to the farm store. Opportunity to pick the following items during this time: sweet corn, tomatoes, bell peppers, green beans, blackberries, squash, cantaloupe. Wagons will then take families back to the store to pay. This is a great opportunity for kid's to learn about where different food comes from and experience picking a few of each. Wagon rides leave every 30 minutes from 10-1. This is a one day only event so don't miss out! Indiana State Fair: Look for Tuttle's produce in the Ag/Hort Building. It's a family tradition to enter our apples and vegetables in the State Fair to see how we compete with other growers. Salsa Saturday: Sample our new fruit salsas and enjoy specials on canning tomatoes this Saturday. Melon Sampling Day:to give you an opportunity to try different types of melons and cantaloupe. Pick your own Greenbeans is a great activity for the whole family. Available July-August as crop ripens. Pick Your Own Blackberries is available. For 2012, the picking will be early...in mid-July. popular with many families. Bring your food an enjoy a picnic lunch. Our Farm Store is brimming with fresh picked produce including: Tomatoes as early as June 1st! Our Award Winning Sweet Corn Peaches from Indiana and South Carolina orchards. Other Tuttle's grown produce including: zucchini, summer squash, peppers, cabbage, cucumbers, cantaloupe, watermelon, blackberries, green beans, onions, etc. To find out what's in season check Produce Page The summer is the time when the apples are growing. However, some varieties are ready for harvesting in late summer (July/August). These summer varieties (Lodi, Early Blaze, Ginger Gold, Paula Red, Ozark Gold) are available in our store. Pick your own apples begins in September with the fall varieties. Zinnias are blooming. Monday-Wednesday 9AM-6PM, Thursday-Saturday 9AM-7PM, Closed Sunday U-pick Hours: Mid June-Mid August.
